Budding cricketer dies after being struck by the ball

A young budding cricketer, Zubair Ahmed Mohmend died at Katlang, Mardan while practicing in Sir Nazim Academy on 14th August after being struck twice by the ball.

On an off day in the academy on 14th August, where the academy had organized a ceremony to celebrate the Independence Day, the 18-year old insisted to do nets with some other players which eventually ended in the tragedy.

“It was an off day in the academy due to 14th August. We had organized a ceremony to celebrate the 71st Independence Day at the academy where world acclaimed cricketer Fakhar Zaman was invited,” Dawn News quoted Academy coach Bakht Mohammad.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took Twitter to express their sorrow on this tragic incident and communicated the importance of wearing safety gear while practicing.

However, the academy coach stated that Zubair was wearing his complete cricket kit, including the helmet. The ball first struck him near his ear, he continued practice, then the ball struck near his neck that proved fatal.

“First the ball hit him near his ear and then the second ball hit near his neck due to which he collapsed,” he told.

Zubair was immediately taken to a hospital at Katlang, but the doctors referred him to Mardan hospital. On his way to Mardan, Zubair lost the battle of his life.
