Five-member Pakistan snooker team leaves for Egypt


Karachi: Pakistan’s five-member snooker team left for Egypt from Lahore on Tuesday morning to participate in the World 6-Red and Team event snooker championship to be played in Cairo. The Championship is scheduled to be played on Wednesday in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Both the events will continue till July 30. In these International events Pakistan’s first Top four national Cueists will represent the country.

The following are the participants picked as winners of the Second National Ranking Championship held at Karachi.
Babar Masih from Sargodha as (National #1) Sohail Shehzad from Karachi as (runner-up & National#2) Asjad Iqbal as (National#3) and former National champion Muhammad Bilal as (National#4) all of them are members of the Pakistan squad.

Naveed Kabadia will take the responsibility of a referee. There would be two teams taking part in the World 6-Red and Team championship. Pakistan Team-1 includes Babar Masih and Asjad Iqbal and Sohail Shehzad and Muhammad Bilal will be part of Pakistan Team-2. The four national cueists will also participate in the single’s event played amongst 146 players.

According to Egyptian Billiard and Snooker Association the competition being played in the vicinity of Egyptian Pyramids will hold a total prize-money of fifty two thousand dollars. The winner of the men’s event will get fourteen thousand dollars, Master’s event champion ten thousand dollar, winner of women event eight thousand, team winning the 6-Red and Team championship title twelve thousand dollars whereas winner of women team event will get six thousand dollars.

According to the sports policy of the World Snooker Association any player can be checked for the dope-test during the championship.
