Know your Champions Trophy squad: Mohammad Amir
Mohammad Amir

Left-arm fast bowler, Mohammad Amir appeared on the international cricket scene as the new pace sensation, many pundits coined him as the new Wasim Akram and he did not actually disappoint them.

Mohammad Amir first donned Pakistan colours during World T20 2009 and was a key member of the winning squad. He came up as an intelligent, aggressive and highly skilled campaigner.

He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka at Dambulla in July 2009. He was a part of Pakistan team that defeated India in Champions Trophy 2009 by 54 runs.

He was seen as the legend in the making, but Amir damaged himself by getting into spot-fixing during Pakistan’s tour to England in 2010. His corrupt act resulted in three months sentence and five years ban.

The young pacer, who was ban at the age of 19, came back in Pakistan team in 2016 at an age of 24 years. Since his comeback, he seems to lose his bite a bit, but he has shown the glimpses of his class on some occasions.

When Pakistan faced India during Asia Cup T20 2016, he nearly made the match out of nothing for Pakistan while defending 88 runs by taking three wickets in first two overs.

During the presentation ceremony of that game, Virat Kohli hailed Mohammad Amir, called him a world class bowler.

Amir has taken 50 wickets in 32 matches at an average of 27.14 with an economy rate of 4.39.

During Pakistan’s recent outing in West Indies, it looked like Amir has got his lost magic back. If this is the case, the oppositions’ batsmen need to worry about facing him in the Champions Trophy.
