Pakistan’s Maryam Nasim claimed the bronze medal in 63kg weight category by deadlifting 120kg and dedicated the win to Pakistan’s hockey World Cup winning hero, Mansoor Ahmed, who recently lost his life.

Maryam Nasim suffered an acute injury and she was not able to deadlift even half of the weight she deadlifted in the competition, but her coach asked to keep going and she eventually stood victorious.

“I couldn’t squat or deadlift properly. I was pulling out of the camp but my coach wanted me to learn from this experience. Show the right attitude, still go but not lift heavy,” said Maryam Nasim.

The powerlifter dedicated her win to Pakistan’s national hero, Mansoor Ahmed.

Mansoor Ahmed led Pakistan to an inspiring victory in World Cup 1994, who became a wall to save his goal from opponents’ penalty shots in the final of the tournament.
