Pakistan's Waqar defeat Chinese top grappler Zhikang Zhao in featherweight clash

Pakistan’s Waqar Umar weathered an early storm from Zhikang Zhao and came back to secure a first-round rear-naked choke in their featherweight clash.

Facing one of the toughest fights of his career against Chinese MMA artist ‘Zhao Zhi Kang with a record of (10-2) Waqar “Psycho” Umar came out victorious with his hand raised in the air.

In the main card of ONE Championship: Iron Will on Saturday at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, “The Psycho” emerged victorious with Rear Naked Choke (RNC) over Chinese Top grappler ‘Zhao Zhi Kang’

Zhao used his left kick and right to set up takedowns, while Waqar successfully defends himself On the ground. The Pakistani Waqar Umar vaunted grappling, for the most part, scrambling out of dangerous positions.

In Round 1, Waqar Umar managed to secure back control and he searched for a rear-naked choke and finally got the position on Zhao and secured his victory at One Championship. Waqar thanked his teammates at Rogue fitness and MMA, Lahore and the whole nation for always standing behind him in ups and downs.

Waqar’s manager and director of Prime Sports Management said that ‘It is the biggest day in Waqar’s professional career. He faced too much criticism in past when Waqar lost a couple of fights in OneFC. Finally, he is back on winning track and we are looking forward to upcoming fights because it’s the beginning of a new era not only in Waqar’s career but in Mixed Martial Arts Pakistan”

Waqar’s Coach Jahanzeb Rashad says that by the grace of God we executed the game plan and got the results in our favour. Zhao was good in striking and takedowns to have seen in his previous fights. Our plan was to submit him on the ground and we successfully achieved the goal.
