The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that the final of the second edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be played in Lahore on March 7, a report published by ESPNcricinfo said on Sunday.

It stated that the board is drawing up a contingency plan to replace overseas players who would be unwilling to travel to Pakistan due to security reasons.

“In the recent governing board meeting it was decided that the final of PSL will be held in Lahore,” a PCB spokesman told ESPNcricinfo.

“PCB will try to convince players to travel to Pakistan but in the worst case scenario we will have a new draft for the players who are ready to tour Pakistan.”

According to the webzine, if none of the overseas players would be willing to travel to Lahore then the final will be played with replacement local players.

“Once the teams for the finals are decided and their icon or foreign players refuse to travel to Lahore, we will make a new draft with a pool from the existing 30-35 players of PSL,” Najam Sethi, who is PCB’s head of executive committee and PSL chairman, was quoted as saying.

“We will probably need about five to ten players for Lahore, and those players who would be available from the discarded three teams can then get picked through this draft for the final.”

In an earlier interview to a leading English daily, Sethi said that the board has cancelled Dubai stadium’s booking for the final.

“I have met Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and he was happy over the decision of holding the PSL final in Lahore,” he told the newspaper.

“The minister has promised all kinds of security and the Punjab government is also ready to help us, so, we have decided to cancel the booking of Dubai stadium to hold the final in Lahore.”

The PCB has been making efforts to stage the final of the second edition of its league in Lahore, with rest of the tournament to be played in Dubai and Sharjah beginning on February 9.
