Sultan Azlan Shah Cup begins today at Ipoh


Silver Jubilee Sultan Azlan Shah hockey tournament begins today in Ipoh, Malaysia. Pakistan team will be seen in action with its new captain Muhammad Irfan.

Pakistan will play its first match against Canada. There would be 7 teams in this event including Malaysia fighting for the title. The countries participating are Pakistan, India, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Canada.

On the inaugural day of the event there will be two other matches, Japan will face India and New Zealand will play against Malaysia. The last time Pakistan hockey team won a gold medal in this event was in 2003 followed by a silver medal in 2011. New players have been inducted in the Pakistan hockey team to prove their talent.

The Australian team will be defending their title in this event. Pakistan’s hockey team captain Muhammad Irfan says “Our team will try to show better performance in this event.”
