The 18-years-old Mushtaq Kalhoro belongs to a low-paid family living in inter-district Sukkur, Sindh. Mushtaq was passionate towards cricket since his childhood. But due to the lack of financial resources, he worked as a labor to earn his living. Unlike other fortunate cricketers who were brought up in such an academic environment. “I’m playing cricket since my childhood, There was a time when I used to work as a labor in the morning with my father, then in the evening I went to the cricket academy and after a long tiring day I hardly had money to buy food for me, I spent countless nights with hunger,” he reminisced.
Seeing his hard work and immense dedication, he was hi-lighted in his inter-district level cricket club which stood as a turning point in his career.
“I was playing from a local club ‘Young City’ in Sindh as a fast bowler then I shifted to Karachi”, he told.
The wheels of fortune, suddenly, changed in favor of this talented bowler when he got selected by the biggest franchise of Pakistan Super League, Karachi Kings as part of their talent hunt program.
“I got to know two weeks earlier about Karachi Kings trials, I was quite nervous as it was revolving in my mind that there will be so many boys who are going to take part in the contest but I was hoping to give my best, and I did,” he told.
Mushtaq has been picked through the open trials by Karachi Kings across Sindh, an accurate example of bringing talent up from the grass root level.
The young pace-man expressed his feelings after been shortlisted, “I’ve never seen my family this much happy, I have no words to explain my happiness, it’s like a dream come true and I’m really thankful to Karachi Kings and Sir Rashid Latif who gave me the opportunity and my coaches who supported me in every aspect,” he told with joy.
“My coaches have lots of expectations and now its time to prove it, being a bowler, now I feel like I’ve started living my life after been shortlisted and I’m determined to prove myself in PSL,” he told.
Every successful cricketer has his own share of struggles which frame his journey to success.
Answering about his inspiration, Mushtaq said, “Waqar Younis and Imran Khan are my role models, whenever I see them playing I try to copy their bowling action, strategies, even the way they work out, I have followed them since the beginning, he told.
The young right arm quick from Sukkur will be sharing the dressing room with Mohammad Amir and Shahid Afridi and it’s going to be a great learning curve for the young paceman.
While expressing his excitement to play alongside such big cricketing stars, Mushtaq become emotional, “God rewarded me with such pleasant opportunity because of my hard work and untiring efforts,” he concludes.
Mushtaq’s immediate plan is to perform in PSL 3 and to play one-day domestic cricket. He seeks every opportunity to grow as a cricketer.
